Win10 LTSC – security updates until 2032 on laptops.

Exciting new development for our Win10 laptops!

With Windows 10 reaching end-of-life we’ve been asked a lot, “what’s next for these systems? Win11?”

Unfortunately, due to TPM requirements on laptops running Win11, it makes the flexibility of Boot&Go, or our ability to provide a hard drive to install into someone’s laptop, or the ability to run an affordable older laptop, all difficult things to do on Win11. It’s much easier if we can stay on Win10, especially with the UEFI/Legacy combined bios format that we have now (super slick)… it all works so well on seemingly every laptop. (Ain’t broke, don’t fix it.) And this current B&G provides users the ability to swap between very different laptops and it still works.

But for the laptops we build, where the hardware is more under our control, do we go Win11 on those eventually? Maybe. Is the TPM chipset issue really worth the hassle? Do we have two different systems then? Hmmm…. Maybe we don’t have to go that far yet. I’m sure it’s coming.

BEST THING FOR NOW: Windows 10 LTSC provides security updates until at least the year 2032. So that does provide some long-term solutions for our PC systems.

For now, it seems like we have a great answer…. laptops will be LTSC, while boot&go will remain where it’s at to ensure maximum flexibility (LTSC requires other settings changes that makes it more rigid and not ideal for B&G at this time.)

Security updates on a B&G system are less concerning as these devices are usually limited to just garage-sessions and personal banking and what not is less likely to be a concern on these types of external SSD systems. (So for now, Win10, as it is should be fine for the foreseeable future.)

TLDR; Our laptops will now have long term security updates until 2032.

We are always evolving, looking to make things better. Keep checking back with us for more!
